Hi Judy, I found your page when I was researching Bill Metz. I am in the process of purchasing the home that you went to and that he worked in, I am excited beyond words to find this story and write up on him.

I hope you and I can talk at some point, I will be taking the home back to its historic look outside, with historic as well as updated imeneties inside.

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for your recent email. My blog post about Bill Metz was titled The Tin Man, but the book I wrote featuring a tinsmith was titled A SHINING LIGHT. The book has a male protagonist who is the tinsmith in Middle Amana, but isn't based on Bill's life. He was the one who was kind enough to help me when I researched the art of tinsmithing in order to write the book. Bill was truly generous with his time and his knowledge was extremely helpful. I haven't been back to Amana for several years, but he was still filling a few orders for his work the last time I was there.
Thanks for writing,
Judy Miller

Dear Judith,
I lived in IOWA and knew Bill Metz well. I now live in the UK and would love to get a copy of “The Tin Man”.
Bill is one of those special people I felt it was a privilege to know.
Please could you advise on how I can get a copy of this in the UK.

With Kind Regards
Kevin

Hi Jackie,
So glad you enjoyed the post. Since I'm no longer blogging at Writes of Passage, I decided I'd do more blogging here on my own website where I can blog as frequently as I'd like about the topics I enjoy. I'm like you--I love learning about the old crafts and visiting with folks who still keep them alive for us!
